36

Release Date - December 4th (Deluxe Version) & December 18th (Standard Version)

"36" is what I call the mental health album. When I caught the 'Rona, I recovered quickly, but two weeks in quarantine forced me to sit down. The world was doing a lot. God was requiring a lot & it was hard to keep up. It all burnt me out & my body shut down.

Since 7 years old, writing & creating music was always the place I would go to for joy. So for this album, I just wanted to create. I didn't want to overthink. I didn't want to care about algorithms or any technical stuff. I wanted to find ways to invite my friends & supporters into my most intimate space & share stories.

It was so much fun. I needed this.

When my new daughter asks what was going on before she got here, I wanted documentation that I could give to her. An authentic medium of expression that shows her where Dad was & all the ways her arrival impacted him. I wanted her to know she was created for such a time as this. In a time of uncertainty, strife & chaos, she was a perfect thought in the Lord's mind. & she is a manifestation of His perfect love toward her Mom, Dad, Brothers & Sisters.

So yes, this is an album. But it's also a moment in time that presents an opportunity for change.

Guest Appearances - Doc Beats, Taelor Gray, Tres Carter, KamBINO, Phillip Joubert, Bink, Priest, Jonathan Baker, Uriah Ari, Raging Moses, Sandman

Even If I Lose

Release Date - February 27, 2018

Even If I Lose is an album concept I've had for a few years, but didn't feel a release to write it until February 2017. I was praying for direction & I heard God say "you've always created these projects about a concept & fit Me in them. When are you gonna create a project about Me?" Even If I Lose is me stripped down to nothing, but it is easily the strongest music I've ever created. It's energetic, it's confrontational, it's powerful.

Even If I Lose is the official follow up to Armond's 2013 album "Kairos". The theme scripture for Even If I Lose is Romans 8:28, which tells us that "all things work together for the good of those who love God & are called according to His purpose". All things aren't necessarily "good", but they work out for "our good" because God loves us & has created us for a purpose beyond what we can imagine.

Snooze Button IV

Release Date - September 28, 2016

I always tell aspiring ministers to keep their heart in check & make sure their motives are simply to please the Lord. Because if we're honest with ourselves. All of us have used our callings & talents & gifts to be selfish in Jesus name. Especially in something like hip hop that is so "me" based. Shoot, MC stands for "Master of Ceremony" or "Mic Controller"...

Many of us rapped before coming to Christ & there was a model of set goals, aspirations & checkpoints in between that you used for validation. But because rapping for Jesus doesn't really have a blueprint, we often divert to either what we know, or what we've seen, or what makes sense to us, or what we want to happen for ourselves. But when expectations meet reality, it's normally followed by bitterness & with the other side, I share my fight against bitterness & the comfort in knowing that our expectations pale in comparison to all God has for us.

Guest appearances - KamBINO, Taelor Gray, J Kwest, Jered Sanders, Jonathan Baker

Condiments EP #1

Release Date - September 10, 2011

So far in 2011 I've released two projects: The Havilland Savage Theory & Ketchup: The Best of Armond (2010-2011). Along with a few freestyles, remixes & guest appearances here & there, if I was to speak for myself, I'd say I was very quiet this year, at least musically. I've been not-so-secretly working on four projects for the majority of the year.

Why Condiments?

It's always the little foxes that spoil the vine. An attention to detail is key in achieving success. While many focus on the bright lights, a lamp can get you to your destination just as efficiently. When it comes to food, some of refuse to eat unless we have the right condiment; ketchup, hot sauce, mayonnaise, salt, pepper, etc. Likewise, success will not come unless all of our I's are dotted & our T's are crossed. The 'condiments' represent the necessity of the "little things" in life

side note: the salt & pepper on the cover represent balance...

The Havilland Savage Theory

Release Date - February 9, 2011

The Havilland Savage Theory is a mixtape which serves as the followup to Armond's "The Nina Mosley Experience". The Havilland Savage Theory is based off of the cult classic film "Hav Plenty" & tells the story of a young man named Lee Plenty, who spends the film dealing with his insecurities & personal inadequacies while in pursuit of his college crush Havilland Savage. Havilland is a beautiful woman, fresh off of a breakup & unknowingly uncertain of her future. Years of emotional buildup culminate in one rollercoaster of a weekend where both Lee & Havilland learn about love & their place in it...individually and collectively.

Set to be released February 9th at armondwakeup.com, Armond tackles both perspectives; what goes through a man's head before, during, & after a relationship? What is a man's "knee jerk" reaction to certain events in a relationship? Do men really have a hard time expressing their feelings? And for Havilland, what is under the surface of a woman who seemingly has it all together? Does the image of the "bitter woman" hold true?

This project was created to create healthy dialogue between men & women, which will hopefully produce some understanding between us.

The Nina Mosley Experience

Release Date - February 14, 2010

In honor of Valentine's Day (and more specifically because I've been extra sappy this week) I'm releasing a free mixtape tomorrow entitled "The Nina Mosley Experience". If you're not familiar with the story, Nina Mosley (Nia Long) was the love interest of Darius Lovehall (Larenz Tate) in the 1997 film "Love Jones". In the movie, Darius seemingly had himself together, but realized he was missing something. When he met Nina, he knew that she was a valuable missing piece to his puzzle. The story weaves in & out a realistic tale of love, hurt & confusion. I've noticed that every year more & more people are bitter around this time. People are either alone or in unfruitful relationships. And with the year that I've had, I've realized that all relationships, whether they be good or bad experiences, always come with valuable lessons that mold you into a better person. There's a little Darius in all of us; once we find out what it is we are purposed for, the next stage in life is to find our Nina Mosley. In that search comes a pleathora of emotions, endless highs & groundbreaking lows. But it's simply a part of life. The experience...in our search for Nina Mosley.

Snooze Button II

Release Date - May 28, 2010

Snooze Button II is your alarm clock. You hit the snooze, you get 15 minutes of rest. You're sleep but you're really not sleep, nodding in & out, letting the sun hit your face. And then you snap up & start your day.

From 2007-2010 I hadn't wrote much of any music. And for somebody that writes everyday, that was incredibly difficult. But it was almost like a beaver dam inside of me that got punctured & suddenly things pour out, and continue to pour out.

Normally after I do a project, I take a few months off from writing, thinking, conceptualizing & give my brain a break. But after Dreaming Out Loud, things kept coming to me. It felt like 2002 when I could only write 60 bar verses & my hooks were terrible. So I decided to take it back.

The mixtape has become the "poor rapper's album" now. I remember when the mixtape was take a bunch of beats & go off & that's exactly what I did. No underlying theme, if anything a simple introduction to some & "a hey how ya been" Facebook message to others.

And with that, I give you...Snooze Button II.

Dreaming Out Loud

Release Date - May 28, 2010

Dreaming Out Loud is my first rapper for Jesus project. I weave my own personal testimony of failure & triumphs, victories & defeats, with a style all my own. "As open music is supposed to be, I see too many walls built up. As if these artists are afraid to be judged for missing the mark. We've all missed the mark. I'm here to let them know that it's OK & it's not the end of the world".
